Diogo Dalot being targeted by Real Madrid

Man United right-back, Diogo Dalot, is attracting interest from La Liga giants, Real Madrid.

Manchester United Football Club are undoubtedly improving under Erik ten Hag. That has become evident.

The Old Trafford side are working harder than ever before, while there seems to be a genuine bond within that dressing room. Suddenly, this group of players feel likeable again.

From front to back, everyone is taking steps forward. Defensively this side is so much better than it was last term. Clean sheets are being kept while the players are performing with calmness.

Perhaps the man who has improved the most? Diogo Dalot. The right-back, who found himself out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has been one of the first names on the team sheet. However, that may not be the case for much longer…

According to The Mirror, the 23-year-old United star has been ‘watched regularly’ by Real Madrid, who are looking to add a full-back to their squad. They initially wanted to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City, but those approaches have been knocked back.

Dalot’s deal at United expires next summer, though the Red Devils do hold the option to extend that contract by a further year. As things stand, though, there’s no indication that a new long-term contract is in the offing.

It’s stated that Barcelona are also ‘monitoring’ Dalot’s situation, with the report suggesting that the player would fetch at least £35m in terms of transfer fee if a deal happens.

OTF’s verdict

There’s no doubt Dalot is in a better place than he was six months ago. Is he a world-class right-back? Not in my opinion, though he’s helped steady the ship. If the money is right, I’d like to keep the Portugal international around.

However, if Dalot is after a massive wage increase, perhaps it’s time to take the £35m and re-invest that into a right-back that suits Ten Hag’s system down to the ground. Jeremie Frimpong has been linked recently. That’s a move that could make sense…
