Diogo Dalot confirms AC Milan move, all-smiles holding jersey aloft

For those who have been following all summer, my doubts about a certain Portuguese right-back have been evident. Now, Diogo Dalot has had a move to AC Milan confirmed.

The young full-back, signed by Jose Mourinho, was given limited opportunities by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. That’s probably justified, given the fact that Dalot has largely unimpressed when called upon.

Couple the Portuguese being constantly injured with the emergence of Brandon Williams and it was always going to be an uphill battle for the former Porto man. Now, he’s leaving United on loan – and I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see him play for the Reds again.

With Alex Telles also looking likely to arrive, Dalot was going to be used even more sparingly. It made sense then, to move him on for the good of his career…

AC Milan represents a brilliant opportunity for someone who is still young. I don’t doubt he’ll go on to enjoy great success with the Serie A club this season. If he can stay fit, of course…

Anyway, the United star took to Twitter, posting a photo of himself all-smiles holding his new club’s jersey aloft after leaving Old Trafford on loan.

For me, it’s all about his health. If Dalot can get a good run of games under his belt, he’ll impress. However, I have doubts that he can keep himself fit for a full season. His time at United showed that.

Again, this feels like another botched Jose Mourinho signing that United have had to work hard to move on from. Now, I hope that with his spot freed up in the squad, a signing or two is made today – to help us compete at the highest level.

All the best in Italy, Diogo!
