Diogo Dalot wants Man United to offer him a new contract.
Manchester United Football Club are trending in a different direction under Erik ten Hag, with the Red Devils looking like a side who are on the up.
With new management comes fresh ideas. This United side play a very different style of football to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, for example.
Contrasting players flourish when these changes are made. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has fallen out of the limelight for example, whereas Diogo Dalot, who has so often looked lost in the past, is playing some outstanding football.
The right-back has been amongst United’s standout performers thus far, improving week-on-week. He’s even taken his form to the international stage, scoring twice for Portugal in a match over the weekend.
Now, United have a serious decision to make about Dalot’s future. His current United contract expires next summer.
The Manchester Evening News report that the 23-year-old United star is ‘hopeful’ of securing fresh terms at United following his great form.
However, Dalot is attracting big interest from elsewhere. Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Roma are all ‘monitoring’ the form from the Portugal international.
So what happens now for Dalot?
It’s expected that United will trigger the one-year extension clause in Dalot’s contract, giving them an extra year to sort his situation out. That said, I’d much prefer to see the club straight-up offer the right-back a new long-term deal and skip the one-year extension. It’s exactly what he deserves.
What I like most about this is that Dalot genuinely wants to be at United. I fully believe he’d sign the deal without thinking twice, assuming one is placed in front of him.
Go get it done and sort out his future before the vultures start circling. The last thing United want is Dalot’s head to be turned.
