Diogo Dalot impresses for Portugal vs Belgium

Diogo Dalot looked sharp for his beloved Portugal against Belgium last night. That didn’t go unnoticed amongst Manchester United supporters.

Manchester United have so many players away at the European Championships this summer and it’s an absolute pleasure watching them do well.

From Paul Pogba to Harry Maguire, with Daniel James and Victor Lindelof also looking pretty sharp. Last night, though, it was Diogo Dalot who’d steal the show.

Dalot wasn’t even called up to the Portugal squad until very late in the day, nonetheless was he ever expecting to start a knockout round game. Well, he’d be called upon to take on Belgium last night and I’m happy to report he had a very good game.

The Portuguese full-back was able to hold his own against that star-studded Belgium attack. Dalot would look defensively solid, switch the play on multiple occasions and get forward wherever possible.

It was a confident performance from the young man who spent last season out on loan with AC Milan. Showing that maybe, just maybe, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should keep him around.

With a deal for Kieran Trippier looking unlikely, perhaps Dalot deserves one final chance to challenge Aaron Wan-Bissaka for that starting role. Whether or not he’s good enough to usurp the Englishman remains to be seen, however…

Supporters loved what Dalot did last night. He was good, but we’ve rarely seen performances like this from him. Perhaps he needs a good run in the team to prove his worth and get the confidence flowing, but for now, I’ll leave you with the Reds fans who enjoyed every minute of it.

As you’d imagine, the fans were begging for the 22-year-old to get his first-team shot after a brilliant performance last night. We’ve compiled our favourite reactions to the outing here.
