Manchester United are seemingly closing in on their first summer signing, with Diogo Dalot set to undergo his Red Devils medical next week.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who adds that United are still finalising a fee with Porto over the transfer. As soon as that’s been sorted, the 19-year-old full-back will be ready to go through the usual pre-transfer tests.
Portuguese U21 international Dalot is currently out injured; undergoing treatment for a meniscus injury and it’s unsure how long he’ll be sidelined for. Hopefully, said issue won’t affect his medical examinations when the time comes.
Full-back has been a glaring need for Jose Mourinho ever since he took charge at Old Trafford. Sure, both Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young did solid jobs last year, but the pair are by no means the long-term solution.
Dalot is young, physical, tall and quick. He has all the attributes to succeed in the modern-day Premier League game – although it may take him a couple of years to fully adjust and adapt. The good news is that he will be given time, and most likely he’ll sit in as a back-up for a year while playing a handful of games here and there.
