After a complete turnaround, it looks as though Diogo Dalot will be playing his football for Man United this season.
Dating back to last summer, we’ve been unconvinced by Diogo Dalot at Manchester United. Performances have been mixed, while injuries haven’t helped his case. To us, it felt like another failed Jose Mourinho signing.
However, this pre-season, things have felt a little different. Dalot looked superb coming off the substitutes bench against Everton at the weekend, while the reports coming out of United training are equally as positive.
Apparently, the out-of-favour 22-year-old has left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘impressed’ recently, with the gaffer now considering keeping Dalot around and using him in the first-team squad this term.
This comes after Dalot spent the 2020/21 season out on loan with AC Milan, since he was then behind the likes of Brandon Williams and Alex Telles in the full-back pecking order.
It’s explained by O Jogo that Dalot has ‘responded to the manager’s trust’ and he is now set to stay at Old Trafford for the upcoming campaign.
Now, he’ll battle it out with the aforementioned duo, as well as going head-to-head with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw for a place in the side. Obviously, that’s easier said than done, but a confident Dalot is definitely capable of making an impression this term.
Dalot is still under contract at United, with his current deal not expiring until 2024. The young man still has time on his side, though you feel that he has to make some sort of positive impact over the course of the next nine months.
