Diop set for West Ham talks amid United interest, Hammers ask for McTominay: Sky

Manchester United have been linked with centre-backs aplenty during this transfer window – and that doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon.

The most recent name rumoured with an Old Trafford switch was West Ham’s Issa Diop. We covered a report from Sky Sports earlier in the week which claimed The Hammers wanted £60m to let the 22-year-old go.

Late last night, their man Kaveh Solhekol gave us more information on the proposed transfer. He claimed that Diop’s representatives are set for talks with West Ham – although he’s happy at the London club.

Furthermore, West Ham have ‘asked about the availability’ of Scott McTominay. It’s unclear as to whether their move for our midfielder is separate to any move for Diop.

McTominay improved massively towards the end of the season and right now, I’d prefer to keep him at United due to the fact that he’s only 22 himself. Given the choice, though, if including him was the deal-breaker to get Diop, I’d probably do it.

I’ve said it in a previous article but I’m genuinely surprised it took this long for us to be linked with a move for Diop. He fits the profile of the young players that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting this summer – while obviously being immensely talented.

The Frenchman is still young though and he has made mistakes over the last twelve months. That’s bound to happen as he continues to learn, develop and grow as a player.

I’d much prefer to see United spend £60million on Diop rather than splashing £80million on Harry Maguire, that’s for sure. For now, though, we’ll just have to see how this one plays out.
