D’Mani Mellor in Man United first-team training

Man United youngster D’Mani Mellor was involved in first-team training yesterday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s trust in youth has been clear for all to see. From Mason Greenwood to Marcus Rashford, to Brandon Williams and more recently, Anthony Elanga.

Our Baby Faced Assassin has been more than willing to give the youth players a chance provided they’re good enough.

In first-team training yesterday, the 20-year-old starlet, D’Mani Mellor, was spotted. The young man was mixing it up with the first-team for the first time, following a serious ACL injury suffered back in November.

The scoop comes from the Manchester Evening News, who says that Mellor is regarded highly by those inside the United bubble – and would’ve had his chance way earlier if not for injury.

For the avid youth-team watchers amongst you, you’ll know Mellor is a centre-forward by trade.

The Mancunian was in great form before suffering that injury eight months ago now, scoring four and assisting six goals at U23 level in 14 games. It was his overall performances that really caught the eye, though, with Mellor playing with a maturity beyond his years.

I love the fact that Solskjaer has thrown him straight in with the first-team upon his return, as it gives us all an indicator just how highly valued Mellor is by the coaches who watch him in training every single day.

In terms of a confidence-booster, it doesn’t get much better for Mellor, who now has to keep working hard behind the scenes and push on even more.

Congratulations on your first-team involvement, D’Mani!
