Done Deal: Memphis Depay exits Manchester United and completes move to Lyon

Memphis Depay’s Manchester United career is over. The 22-year-old took to Twitter to confirm a move to his new side, Olympique Lyonnais. The talented Dutchman signed for Manchester United under Louis van Gaal, but never really imposed his game here.

He did show a few flashes of pure brilliance, namely in a game against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League last term, but he never did it on a consistent basis, and that’s why he has left the Theatre of Dreams.

Jose Mourinho clearly didn’t fancy the man who was so successful in his final season with PSV before coming to United, and that’s backed up by the fact he didn’t start a single Premier League game this season.

Now, Lyon has given him a real chance to start afresh, and I’ve absolutely no doubts that the left-winger will come up trumps out in Ligue 1.

He’s an extremely talented player as we all know, and it just did not work out for him the way everyone at Manchester United would have hoped.

Shortly after Depay confirmed the move, Lyon’s official Twitter account got in on the act:

Good luck, Memphis! All the best for the future.
