Out of nowhere, it seems as though a Donny van de Beek medical has been completed and the Dutchman will sign for Manchester United.

The information comes from the excellent Fabrizio Romano, who took to Instagram to share all the details of Van de Beek’s proposed move.

Apparently, his medical has been completed, the paperwork with Ajax is all done and the 23-year-old will sign for Manchester United until 2025. Here we go!

In terms of fee, Romano claims it’s a €40m + €5m deal, totalling €45m (£40m) when all is said and done. For a player who could possibly give you close to a decade of service, it certainly seems worth it.

This move has happened so fast. Out of nowhere, United agreed a fee with Ajax and swiftly progressed the agreement with Van de Beek himself and got a medical done.

Now, it doesn’t look too long before an official agreement will be announced by both United and Ajax, with Van de Beek set to become the Red Devils’ first signing of the season.

Van de Beek offers depth

Not only can the Dutchman start in a three alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, Van de Beek can also replace either of them.

This is a midfielder who will score goals and add assists, while being more than comfortable to play that true box-to-box role if needed.

I’m actually surprised United had practically a free run at such a talented young man, particularly at an excellent transfer fee – provided he can live up to expectations.

Hopefully, Edward Woodward can push a deal over the line as swiftly as possible, then start working on other transfer targets. The season gets underway in less than a fortnight now, so United need as much time as possible to get these new players embedded into the squad.
