Donny van de Beek has a muscle injury, Lampard confirms

Man United loanee picked up a muscle injury, Frank Lampard has told the media.

I’ll be honest, I sometimes forget that Donny van de Beek is still a Manchester United player. It’s fair to say his time at Old Trafford has been nothing but a struggle since a big-money move from Ajax.

The world underwhelming springs to mind. Be it due to not fitting into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics, or just having no confidence due to a lack of playing time.

A move to Everton was supposed to fix those issues. The initial word from Toffees fans was certainly one of promise. They were pleased with what they were seeing.

The harsh reality is that Everton are a struggling side, with or without Donny. The Dutchman’s issues continued over the weekend as he was pulled out of the Everton starting XI late due to picking up an injury in the warm-up.

Now, we know that the United loanee has suffered a muscle injury to his squad. The severity of which is not yet known, but it was enough to keep him out of the game at the weekend. Hopefully, he’s back sooner rather than later…

Check out what Lampard told the media in full here:

“Donny had a muscle injury – his quad.” Lampard told reporters, including the Manchester Evening News.

“We don’t know the size of it, hopefully it’s a small one, but not enough to start a game – maybe having to then shuffle around after five or 10 minutes.”

At this point, every minute is massive for Van de Beek. Everton have ten games left to save themselves and the Dutchman should be a key part of their plan in each and every one of those games.

It feels like Van de Beek is approaching the last chance saloon at United. He has to make these next couple of months count, just to show whoever the new manager is that he should be under consideration in some capacity.

No doubt he’s more disappointed than anyone. But one quality of his I have admired is the resiliency that he’s shown despite his struggles. Not once has Van de Beek complained or kicked up a fuss. Instead, he’s turned up to training every day, worked hard and tried to prove his worth.
