Donny van de Beek hints a January exit from Man United could be on the cards

Donny van de Beek has spoken out about a potential January exit from Man United.

Manchester United Football Club still have a squad that’s heavily overpaid and unreliable. There’s too many members in that dressing room that just are not pulling their weight, though moving on from these guys has been tough.

Erik ten Hag managed to ship out both Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea last season, though the likes of Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial remain. Perhaps their days are numbered.

One player I honestly forgot about was Donny van de Beek. We’ve seldom seen photos of him in training this year, though he still collects a massive weekly wage for doing nothing. However, that may not be the case for much longer…

The United midfielder has now hinted at a January exit from Old Trafford, claiming ‘well see’ ‘what happens’ when the January window opens. Understandably, Donny wants to start playing games again ‘very soon’.

Check out what the Dutch midfielder had to say in full here:

”I am bouncing to play matches again,” Van de Beek is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News. “The manager is making different choices now. We have a big squad and I am not the only one knocking on the door.”

“We’ll see in January what happens. I need to start playing games very soon – if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious.”

“I have always been a lover of the game. I am absolutely crazy about football. I earn a good living at United, but money is not my motivation. I want to enjoy my work every day.”

It’s just a pretty grim situation for all involved. Van de Beek cannot be blamed for the big wages he’s on, while you can bet your bottom dollar that he has absolutely tried everything possible to get his Reds career back on the right track.

I don’t doubt United would have wanted to move away from Van de Beek over the summer, though the club were likely unable to find any interested parties due to his inflated financial demands…

Perhaps a loan move away for Van de Beek will offer him that short-term break away from the pressure-cooker that is Old Trafford, with a view to that deal being made permanent when next summer rolls around.

Either way, I think it’s pretty clear that there is no way back for him here in Manchester.
