Donny van de Beek is already being linked with a move away from Manchester United.
Last summer, Manchester United fans (myself included), were delighted when Donny van de Beek was signed.
The Dutchman would hit the ground running with a goal on debut. Though from then on, Van de Beek’s form would only trend downwards. A lack of minutes obviously didn’t help, which led to severe confidence issues.
Now, Van de Beek is considering his future at United. The story comes from Sport in Spain, with the MEN Live blog picking up on the claim this morning (7:45am UK).
Apparently, the United star is ‘open’ to a transfer away after just one season. In fact, it’s stated he’d be ‘happy’ to join FC Barcelona, who are linked with a move for the 24-year-old.
Sport write that the Dutchman’s representatives could be ‘seduced’ by a move to the Camp Nou, even if it’s a loan deal. Understandably, Van de Beek is ‘unhappy’ with the current situation that’s playing out at club level.
The situation was made even more complicated when Van de Beek was ruled out of EURO 2020 with injury. This was supposed to be his chance at redemption and sadly, that has now been stolen away from him.
All that’s done is given Van de Beek more time to think about his future at club level. Right now, I wouldn’t begrudge Donny if he wants to move away as obviously, it hasn’t quite worked out during his first year in Manchester.
I stand by my point that Van de Beek was signed as a Paul Pogba replacement – who was expected to leave last summer. Obviously, that didn’t happen, leaving the Dutchman out of the picture.
Again, it all comes down to where Pogba wants to play his football in 2021/22. Though if United can get back what they paid to sign Van de Beek from Ajax, I’d certainly be tempted to sell.
