Donny van de Beek has given the clearest indication he wants to remain at Man United this summer.
Last summer, Manchester United’s marquee signing was Donny van de Beek. The Dutchman was a relatively expensive signing given the financial climate due to COVID-19.
The early signs were good. Van de Beek would hit the ground running by scoring on debut, looking lively in the few games after that.
However, it would quickly fizzle out for Van de Beek. Performance levels started to drop and the midfielder would quickly find it tough to get on the pitch as a substitute. That led to doubts about his long-term future at United. Understandably so, too…
Well, those fears have seemingly been quashed at source. According to the Manchester Evening News, the struggling 24-year-old is ready to snub transfer interest in him, from Spain, Italy and Germany.
Apparently, several clubs have all made tentative enquiries about signing Van de Beek from United after just a year at the club. However, the midfielder is ready to stay and fight for his place in the side.
Sources close to the player are stating that Van de Beek is feeling fit and fresh heading into the 2021/22 season. With the midfielder determined to prove his doubters wrong.
Honestly, this is the perfect mentality to have. Van de Beek now has twelve months of football in England under his belt, while I don’t doubt Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will also start to trust him a little more, too.
This is the perfect time to start integrating Van de Beek into the starting line-up. He’s now got that fire in his belly and I’m fully expecting to see a new and improved player heading into the new campaign.
