Donny van de Beek set for brief Man United return this summer as Frankfurt will not buy him outright

Donny van de Beek will return to Old Trafford this summer after his Eintracht Frankfurt loan deal ends.

Manchester United have made too many bad habits under the Glazer family. Perhaps the biggest issue has been spending money carelessly. The Red Devils have overpaid for players, both in terms of transfer fee and weekly wages, for far too long. It is now coming back to hurt them hard.

The club are now stuck with footballers they’re unable to move on from until their contracts expire. No other side in the world is daft enough to take on these guys and their astronomical wages. It leads to a series of loan moves away, before said player leaves for good on a free transfer.

Donny van de Beek is another prime example of this situation that seems to keep playing out. The Dutch midfielder arrived at United with promise aplenty. He never lived up to that hype.

A failed loan move to Everton, then a serious injury, led to a short-term move to Eintracht Frankfurt this term. The Bundesliga club had an option to buy for around £12m (13m euro).

However, Eintracht will not trigger that option, according to Fabrizio Romano. They will not purchase the United loanee outright, which probably isn’t all that surprising to many of you. The struggling 27-year-old will now return to the Reds, albeit briefly as he will be leaving this summer.

Romano doesn’t confirm whether Van de Beek will be leaving on loan again, or on a permanent transfer, though I’d place good money on it being the former.

United will likely send the Dutchman away for another season, while paying a large chunk of his wages, before releasing him for nothing next summer.

What’s crazy here is that Van de Beek actually arrived at United with massive hype surrounding his career. United have absolutely killed any chance he had at making it at the highest level. He’s now going to have to search for a club willing to take a gamble on him, as he looks to get his career back on track. Just brutal.
