Donny van de Beek is looking set to leave Man United this summer.
Manchester United are undergoing major change this summer. INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are looking to make a positive first impression on the Old Trafford Faithful. Perhaps the club could have a new manager in charge, too.
The first order of business is to clear the slate and create some funds for the manager to spend. There are several players currently out on loan or on the fringes of the squad, that simply are not pulling their weight..
Perhaps no player epitomises that more than Donny van de Beek. The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford with promise aplenty, though so far, has failed to live up to the hype.
A loan move was sanctioned this season, with Van de Beek heading to Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the Bundesliga club will not be purchasing him outright.
While speaking to GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on that front. Apparently, the 27-year-old is looking all set for a summer Reds exit, upon his return to Old Trafford from Germany.
GMS state that the player will ‘assess his options’ after the unsuccessful short-term loan move.
After signing in a deal worth nigh-on £40m, this is just another in a long list of disappointing failures for United. The Reds will get nothing close to the fee they paid back for Donny, while I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s sent out on loan again next season as the club wait for his contract to wind down.
More than anything, United just want to get his £6m-a-year wages off their books. That’s an awful lot of dead money right now and the sooner that space is cleared, the better it’ll be for the whole club.
