Manchester United fans have been calling for Donny van de Beek to start games for months now. Well, they could be about to get their wish…
Part of my usual morning routine is trawling through the Manchester Evening News’ ‘United Live’ blog as it’s often an excellent place to get all the latest information in one spot.
The guys over there do an excellent job at covering United news stories from around the world, while giving their own information too.
Well, over on the MEN live blog this morning, there was a small piece of insight in regards to the United team for the Fulham game tomorrow evening…
It’s claimed that there’s a ‘good chance’ United will rest players away at Craven Cottage on Wednesday evening, while the first name mentioned as a potential starter is Donny van de Beek.
The MEN claim that it ‘looks like’ the 23-year-old United star is in line to be handed a ‘rare’ league start against Fulham. This would be just his third start in the Premier League since arriving from Ajax over the summer in a £40m deal. It’s also claimed Alex Telles is ‘in with a shout’ to come into the side, presumably in Luke Shaw’s place.
Check out what the MEN had to say here:
I also like the fact that Dean Henderson will be involved at some point over the next few days. The English shot-stopper has been used more often than I thought by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, it’s a great experience for the future United number one. As for Mason Greenwood, he definitely needs the minutes as he looks to rediscover his confidence.
Back on Van de Beek. I think we all expected to see more of the Dutchman, particularly as when he has played, we’ve all been left impressed.
My biggest takeaway from the situation is that Solskjaer doesn’t feel particularly comfortable playing both Van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes in the same team. That begs the obvious question. Why sign him…?
To counteract that argument, football is now a squad game more than ever. Van de Beek is a high-level replacement capable of coming into the side and making a massive impact. I guess us fans are just disappointed that we haven’t seen him in action more.
It looks like he’s about to get another opportunity to impress tomorrow, though. Hopefully, he takes that chance with both hands.
