Donny van de Beek is all set to seal a deadline day move to Everton on loan.
Manchester United’s move for Donny van de Beek certainly hasn’t worked out as we’d all hoped to this point. After a fairly bright start, things fizzled out pretty quickly for the Dutchman.
The former Ajax man has spent most of his time rooted to the bench, despite hit and miss performances from the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred. That should tell us a lot about how it’s going for Van de Beek in training…
Anyway, at this point, Van de Beek needs a move away in some capacity – purely to get his confidence back. Well, after failing to start a Premier League game in the first half of the campaign, the midfielder will be spending the second portion of the season on loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, his medical is now complete with the contracts being signed. The 24-year-old United star will be announced as an Everton player soon – on a loan deal.
Romano goes on to add that there’s a loan fee and his full salary will be paid. However, the Toffees do not have the option to buy Van de Beek outright.
I guess at this stage, Ralf Rangnick just couldn’t guarantee Van de Beek the playing time that he needs. Sure, it may leave us looking a little thin in midfield until Paul Pogba gets back, but it’s unfair to keep Van de Beek around, particularly if he’s not happy.
This move to Everton is massive. He’ll be playing in and around a talented squad of footballers with a point to prove and this could be the chance he needs to kickstart a career in England.
One thing I will say is that Van de Beek really does need to play well for Everton from now until the end of the season. If he doesn’t, I’m not sure he’ll play for United again.
