Donny van de Beek would start his first Manchester United league game today, though he wouldn’t get through it without injury…
Well, we were made to wait for Donny van de Beek’s full Premier League debut and he didn’t disappoint.
Once again, the Dutchman proved that he’s the man who makes our team tick with his fluid movement, incisive passing and all-round intelligence. Quite frankly, it was an absolute pleasure watching him work alongside Bruno Fernandes.
Perhaps it was just a case of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting to ease the Dutchman in, which you do understand given the fact that Van de Beek is moving into a completely different country, learning an entirely different style of play.
Now, though, the beast has been unleashed. For my money, Van de Beek is someone who has to be starting week-in-week-out. We have no other player who brings what he brings to the table and in a trio alongside the aforementioned Fernandes and someone like Nemanja Matic or Scott McTominay, it could work wonders.
Anyway, Van de Beek’s first start did come at a cost… the midfielder would take to social media to show off a rather nasty-looking ankle issue following the win…
Check out Van de Beek showing off his injury on Instagram here:
That looks like some serious bruising! Thankfully, this is a pretty common injury at the highest level of football and it shouldn’t keep him off the field for too long.
I guess it’s just a case of waiting for the swelling to go down and trying to avoid any heavy contact on the injured area. United don’t take on Paris Saint-Germain until Wednesday so having that extra day off could well be the difference in Van de Beek being available to start or not.
Hopefully, Van de Veek can rest up tomorrow, then, come back ready to play in a few days.
