Donny van de Beek is doubtful to take on Crystal Palace later today, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.
If we’re being honest with ourselves, Manchester United are probably playing for second place. The gap between ourselves and our Noisy Neighbours is probably too big.
With that in mind, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have a chance to finish best of the rest. We have to take advantage of dropped points around us over the last week, cementing ourselves in that second-place spot.
It all continues tonight with a potentially tricky tie against Crystal Palace. It’s worth remembering United will have revenge on their mind, after The Eagles beat us on the opening day of the season.
For that game, we’re unlikely to have Donny van de Beek available. The struggling United star has been labelled as a ‘doubt’ for this one, per the manager himself…
Check out what Solskjaer had to say when asked directly about Donny:
“He’s not there yet, completely where we want him to be, or where he wants to be,” Solskjaer responded, per ManUtd.com. “He’s still a doubt for tomorrow.”
Timing-wise, Van de Beek’s injury couldn’t have happened at a worse moment. The Dutchman would have been hoping to capitalise in the absence of Paul Pogba. Instead, he’s out injured himself and unable to make his mark.
You already get the impression it’s about focusing on next season for Van de Beek. He’s a talented young man, that cannot be argued. However, this season has been a truly forgettable one. So-much-so that I’m still not sure how the former Ajax man is best utilised…
I’m holding out hope that Van de Beek can turn things around over the summer with a good pre-season under his belt. Some of the onus has to fall at Solskjaer’s feet, though, who has used the 23-year-old sparingly.
Get well soon, Donny!
