Credit to Manchester United, who have seemingly sorted out a deal for Donny van de Beek incredibly quickly – with an announcement now expected this week.
Edward Woodward and the United board have taken some stick recently. Some of it deserved. However, we should be as quick to praise them in equal measure.
They’ve absolutely nailed this move for Van de Beek, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer getting his man. The Dutchman is set to become United’s first signing of the summer.
According to Rob Dawson, who has been all over this transfer over the last few days, the United transfer for the 23-year-old is ‘all done’. Furthermore, we can expect an official van de Beek announcement from United ‘this week’.
Dawson would also go on to praise United’s efficiency in regards to this deal and long may it continue.
Oh, Donny Donny
I’m excited. All the talk had been about Jadon Sancho for weeks, though a deal for Van de Beek is equally as important.
Solskjaer will now boast some much-needed depth in the middle of the park. Having the likes of Van de Beek and Fred on the bench looks far better than seeing Andreas Pereira taking up a slot.
With United looking to make a positive impression in the Champions League, more additions are still needed. This is a good start, but it has to be exactly that – a beginning. Two or three fresh faces, of adequate quality, have to arrive before our opening league game on September 19th. The clock is now ticking.
For now, let’s enjoy Van de Beek’s addition. I don’t doubt that we’ll see the photo of him holding up a United jersey in the not too distant future. Now, what squad number does he go for…?
It’s now worth pointing out that ESPN also believe United are now moving for Dayot Upamecano. What a statement signing this would be!
