Donny van de Beek is ready to move away from Manchester United this summer.
Well, I can’t say I’m shocked about this one. All-round, this transfer has gone pretty badly. Now, Donny van de Beek is ready to leave Old Trafford and get his career back on track…
The story comes from the Daily Star, who state that the United star, who has played 26 times this season, wants to quit the club this summer.
Van de Beek has started just two Premier League games this term, following a big-money transfer to the Theatre of Dreams last summer. Simply put, he hasn’t been able to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s thoughts on a regular basis.
The Star state that Van de Beek has been ‘left stunned’ at his lack of action, which is fair enough. Everyone just assumed he’d settle right in and play with regularity. Sadly, that didn’t happen.
Van de Beek ‘fears’ he has no long-term future with the Reds, which has led to him looking for a new club in order to kick-start his career. Now, the Dutchman is concerned about his place in Holland’s EURO 2021 squad due to a lack of playing time.
‘Showdown talks’ are set to take place with Edward Woodward before the season ends, as Van de Beek looks for answers as to why he’s been used so sparingly.
Donny has been unlucky
Just when the door looked to be opening, Van de Beek would pick up an injury, at a time when minutes looked like a certainty for the number 34. That can only be described as unfortunate timing.
I’d also imagine that United thought Paul Pogba was going to leave last summer, which is why Van de Beek was signed. Obviously, that didn’t happen and the 23-year-old immediately slipped down the pecking order.
The one thing that is on Van de Beek is some bang-average performances. He looked lively in the early-going of his Old Trafford career, but the displays have gradually become worse. Whether that’s a confidence thing remains to be seen.
I’ll be surprised if United bail on Van de Beek after just one season, though. Let’s see what happens in 2021/22 then make your decision.
