Donny van de Beek isn’t planning on leaving Man United anytime soon.
Last summer, us Manchester United fans were pretty excited when Donny van de Beek was signed from Ajax.
Finally, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was getting an elite level central midfielder who could control the tempo and boss the game from the middle of the park. Or so we thought…
After showing some early promise, it fizzled out pretty quickly for the £35million man. Suddenly, his confidence looked drained, while minutes were hard to come by.
Well, Van de Beek isn’t giving up hope just yet. According to The Times (sub required), with the information being relayed by the MEN live blog, the struggling 24-year-old wants to stay and fight for his Man United place.
They claim that Van de Beek and his agent are not listening to any offers as he wants to remain at Old Trafford. Furthermore, it’s written that the midfielder has been promised by Solskjaer that his chance will come soon.
All this comes around due to the fact that Van de Beek’s international future is now up in the air. A certain Louis van Gaal is Dutch gaffer these days, with the Iron Tulip preferring to work with a tight-knit squad, meaning Van de Beek is going to find it difficult to make the 22/23-man shortlist for the upcoming international fixtures.
I think it’s pretty brutal what’s happened to Donny. To me, it feels like he was supposed to be a replacement for Paul Pogba, who obviously ended up staying at the Theatre of Dreams.
Since then, things have just gone from bad to worse for our number 34 – and none of it was particularly his doing. I just hope he does get his chance soon because he looked pretty sharp in pre-season.
