Donny van de Beek has been told he will get his chances this term…
Manchester United Football Club have themselves a Donny van de Beek problem. After signing the midfielder for a relatively large fee from Ajax, the Red Devils have struggled to utilise the Dutchman’s best assets.
A bright start quickly turned into struggle for the 24-year-old, who has been completely unable to acquit himself on the starting line-up with any consistency.
Many thought that this season would be different, though we’re four games in and Van de Beek has made just one substitute appearance, totalling a little over 5 minutes.
I’d imagine the doubt is creeping in for Van de Beek, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since reaffirmed his belief and trust in the midfielder.
In fact, the Baby Faced Assassin was full of praise for the out-of-favour United star, while he also hinted that Van de Beek could feature tomorrow against Young Boys.
Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:
“Donny is part of the squad, same as everyone else,” Solskjaer is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News. “He is fighting to get minutes. First taste of minutes with a crowd today. This is Man United, Donny. This is what it feels like.
“He keeps working hard. He is such a professional. Top lad as well. He will get his minutes. Tuesday? Let’s see what happens.”
Personally, I still think Van de Beek is a player of real quality. He does have the skill to make an impact within this squad, though if that’s to happen, he’s going to need a run of games in the side.
An appearance here and there doesn’t do anything in regards to consistency and hopefully, Van de Beek is given the opportunity to start against Young Boys in the Champions League tomorrow night.
Play well and the Dutchman should regain his spot in the team because the ability and skill is so obviously there.
In the modern-day game, it’s massively important you can have a big squad full of interchanging parts. Right now, I still get the impression that Solskjaer doesn’t fully trust Van de Beek but the gaffer did decide to keep the midfielder around rather than to cash in – so there may be some hope for the Dutchman yet…
