Erik ten Hag confirms Donny van de Beek will get minutes for Man United, amid a lack of playing time this season.

Manchester United Football Club have absolutely been improving under Erik ten Hag over the last few months, though there is still plenty of work to be done.

We have to credit the gaffer, who is developing the players within the current dressing room. One man who I genuinely thought was going to turn into a key cog? Donny van de Beek.

The Dutchman, previously confirmed that Van de Beek would get his chances when returning to fitness.

Now, we’re at that point. The Dutchman is now back fit. He came off the subs bench against Sheriff in midweek, looking relatively sharp during that cameo, I must say…

Now, in his pre-match West Ham presser, Ten Hag has once again confirmed the forgotten United star, who is yet to play serious minutes this season, ‘should get his chance’ – and he would’ve already played more but for injury.

On top of admitting that Van de Beek will play, Ten Hag also highlighted the strengths of the player. Not only is Van de Beek ‘really good’ when it comes to scoring goals, he’s also excellent in the defensive transition.

Check out what Ten Hag had to say on Donny van de Beek playing time here:

“I was really happy to bring Harry and Donny [on], to give them minutes,” explained Ten Hag to the media, including ManUtd.com.

“Because we need them in the coming weeks. “He [Donny] is not even one week in training, the same as Harry Maguire… He was long out, so I was happy to give him some minutes because you need to get in the right form.

“But he’ll have to work himself back.

“When you analyse the season so far, then if he was available then he should get his chance.”

“Because we need goals and I know Donny is really good in the position to score goals but also he is really good in defence transition.”

Van de Beek obviously thrived under Ten Hag at Ajax before his move to Old Trafford. It’s no surprise that the United boss is trying to help his player rediscover that form.

So far, the supporters haven’t really seen the best of Donny. Right now, his confidence looks absolutely shot. Neither Ole Gunnar Solskjaer nor Ralf Rangnick really trusted in the Dutch midfielder – which does leave me concerned. He obviously wasn’t doing enough in training.

If there’s anyone who can help Van de Beek get back to his best, it’s Ten Hag. I’d imagine that from now until the end of the season, the player will be given opportunities. If it doesn’t work, then I wouldn’t be surprised if the midfielder is moved on this summer…
