Donny van de Beek’s agent has spoken out about his mixed feelings after a move away from Man United failed to materialise for his client.
Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek hasn’t had the best of times over the last year. The Dutchman has failed to acquit himself within that Reds starting XI following a pricey move from Ajax.
His talent is undeniable. The 24-year-old is a cracking player. However, confidence is low at the moment. It felt like a move away would be best for all involved.
Obviously, we’re now over the transfer deadline and that exit for Donny van de Beek did not happen. Whether or not that’s due to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting to keep him around remains to be seen.
Well, Van de Beek’s agent definitely tried to engineer a switch away from Old Trafford for his client. He’s since expressed his disappointment that a transfer away didn’t materialise for the United star – despite interest.

“There was a lot of interest from Italy, Germany, England, so that looked good. But you need co-operation of the club, and it looked like they would, but ultimately they didn’t,” he told Voetbal International, per the Manchester Evening News live blog.
“Disappointed, but also assuring for him, so that he will get his chance, and will get his minutes, but this will become clear in due time.
“He’s been promised that before, but we came to a clear agreement about this with the club, so we have all faith that it will happen now.”
Either United wanted to protect their asset, or Solskjaer is ready to give Van de Beek some extra minutes. Albers has also claimed that he’s been ‘promised’ minutes for his client in the past – though that didn’t happen.
You get the feeling United are seriously running the risk of upsetting Van de Beek and his entourage – and it’ll only be so long before we hear more serious outbursts from Albers.
I guess all Donny can do is keep doing what he’s doing in training and hope that Solskjaer sticks to his promise. Eventually, Van de Beek needs his chance to prove his worth with regular starts. I’d like to think it’ll happen following the international break – though I’m not holding my breath.
