After a brief time without these stories, Manchester United are once again being linked with a move for Jadon Sancho.
Cast your mind back to last summer when it looked like, for all the world, that Manchester United would be signing Jadon Sancho.
In the end, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have to make do without the Englishman, probably due to money restrictions as a direct result of the global pandemic.
Now, Sancho’s name is on the German back pages again. This time it comes from SportBILD‘s Wednesday print edition, translated via Sport Witness.
It’s claimed that Dortmund need a ‘squad refresh’ but won’t have the money to do so unless a big player is sold. The player they’re looking at moving on is Sancho.
SportBILD write that it’s ‘very likely’ the 20-year-old will transfer to England this summer, while Dortmund ‘hope’ that club is United. They want the Red Devils to cough up the £108m – the amount that was rumoured it’d take to sign Sancho last summer…
Check out SportBILD’s spread on Sancho here:
My immediate thought is that United may well still be interested as the right-wing slot is still up for grabs. However, given the fact the Old Trafford club weren’t willing to pay the asking price last summer, I’d be surprised if they’re more inclined to do so now.
This could be Dortmund’s attempt at letting the media know Sancho could be for sale, while they’re understandably looking to keep his price as high as possible. United, though, would likely go back in with a much lower bid – knowing that the Bundesliga outfit is facing some financial constraints.
It does feel like the clearest indication yet that Dortmund are now willing to deal Sancho, which is a massive boost should United still hold a big interest in bringing the Englishman home.
I reckon this one has some legs. Expect these stories to increase in volume as we approach a massive summer transfer window for Solskjaer.

With the need for several positions to be upgraded, spending a huge amount on one (very good) player does not make sense. Transfermarkt values Sancho at £90, million, whilst Leon Bailey (right winger for Bayer Leverkusen) is valued (Transfermarkt) at £31, million. United could use the difference to buy Denis Zakaria (defensive midfielder) from Borussia Monchengladbach, who Transfermarkt value at £36, million and still have money to buy an experienced right wing back (Kieran Trippier) to offer competition to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Buying those three, would not address the centre back or centre forward area’s, although IF Inter Milan do still owe United £43, million another position could be filled with the purchase of Lautaro Martinez.
