Manchester United’s move for Memphis Depay has certainly come into question over the last few weeks, especially after causing the opening Stoke goal on Boxing Day due to an extremely poor headed back pass that was meant for David de Gea. However Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has leapt to his defence.
“He’s a very young guy. When he was in Holland he was one of the star players at a very young age.” Hiddink began. “Because there is a lack of star players who are playing already many years in their league.”
“So at a young age, he was bombarded as one of big talents.”
Of course, he has this talent, but he is also having to confront the demands of the Premier League.”
Hiddink is right as well, and its refreshing to see an opposing manager back up his compatriot before the two sides meet. Hiddink will have briefly worked with Depay on the international scene and he’ll know an awful lot about his qualities.
Hopefully Depay can take these words on board and use it as a motivational tool ahead of the game tomorrow, in which he is almost certain to start due to a whole host of injuries.
