Manchester United’s first away Champions League fixture of the season takes place on Wednesday, with Jose Mourinho hoping to continue picking up the victories. Ahead of that match, the Manchester Evening News have provided some early squad news.
The MEN photographers apparently took photos of a 19-man squad on their way to Russia, and there were some notable absentees. Defensive duo Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia did not travel, neither did Michael Carrick nor Marouane Fellaini – with the latter picking up an injury.
There is some good news though, as Eric Bailly is available following his continental ban after getting sent off in the Europa League semi-final at the back end of last season.
Check out the 19-man squad in full here:
David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Victor Lindelof, Axel Tuanzebe, Matteo Darmian, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial.
Although there are a few of the regular guys missing, it’s still an unbelievably strong group of players to choose from. This game will not be easy. It never is out in Russia, but Mourinho will have his players prepared to go out there and take all three points.
If we do manage to grab the victory, it’ll put us in a commanding position in the group and from then on, we’ll be looking great for progression into the knockout stages.
