Early Squad News: Man United name 18-strong party for game vs Chelsea away

Manchester United take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, with the Red Devils looking to further prove they’ve turned things around.

At stake is a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having a real chance at winning major silverware. Weirdly enough, this United side tends to play better against quality opponents.

Since drubbing Chelsea 4-0, Frank Lampard’s men have been a team on the up and they’ll be tricky to beat. That said, if United play well, particularly on the counter – then who knows what can happen.

Before the clash, the Manchester Evening News has unveiled the 18-man travelling party for the game against The Blues. There’s no David de Gea or Paul Pogba – with Solskjaer naming a youthful squad.

Both James Garner and Brandon Williams have travelled, as have more familiar names like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Again, you look at those midfield options and you’re immediately worried. Fred, Andreas Pereira and Juan Mata have left a lot to be desired recently. Why should we expect that to change anytime soon?

Defensively, you’ll always have a chance with Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the side, though you start to worry about when Axel Tuanzebe is going to return from injury. Hopefully, that’ll be sooner rather than later…
