Manchester United are the only team to take points off Liverpool this season. Today, they have a chance to become the first team to beat them in a Premier League game for over a year.
Credit where it’s due, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s record against the top teams is rather excellent and I personally wouldn’t bet against him continuing that here.
However, his task has been made harder as there is one key absence… the Manchester Evening News spotted a 21-man squad arriving at the team hotel for Liverpool away. There was no Marcus Rashford, who picked up an injury during Wednesday’s FA Cup victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
There was a few surprises, mind. Eric Bailly returns to the first-team fold following suffering a serious injury in pre-season. There’s also space for Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong who’ll be keen to prove their worth.
As you’d expect, the likes of David de Gea, Anthony Martial and ew captain Harry Maguire are all involved. That said, you can’t help but feel underwhelmed when you look at the names on this list.
There is still so much work for Solskjaer to do in the transfer market and right now, it’s crazy that we even have a chance at securing a top-four finish.
