Early Squad News: Manchester United’s 19-man derby day squad revealed at Lowry Hotel

The derby is fast approaching, as Manchester United and Manchester City prepare to lock horns once again. This is the first time that Jose Mourinho will be taking his Red Devils to The Etihad, and we go there in some pretty decent form.

As per usual, the Manchester Evening News have been camped outside United’s pre-match hotel, The Lowry. They have revealed the 19-man squad that Mourinho will call upon to get the job done, and all things considered, it looks pretty strong.

Manchester United’s 19-man squad, as per the Manchester Evening News:

David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira, Antonio Valencia, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Matteo Darmian, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney.

Without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo, Paul Pogba, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, you have to say that the self-proclaimed Special One still has plenty of options – particularly in the final third of the pitch.

I’d fully expect to see bags of pace, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan involved. All of whom will be devastating on the counter-attack if we can keep things tight.

It’s brilliant to see Ander Herrera’s name in there, and Eric Bailly’s too. Both of these guys will need to put in big displays, particularly Bailly, who’ll have Daley Blind alongside him who obviously isn’t a natural centre-back.

Honestly, despite our horrific list of injuries, I have to say that I feel confident. Mourinho has shown us just how good he is tactically with that Chelsea game just a couple of weeks ago, and if we play anywhere near as well as that, we’ll certainly be tough to beat.
