Manchester United’s game against Crystal Palace takes place this evening, as Jose Mourinho’s side look to cement their spot as the ‘best of the rest’.
Make no mistake, though, the game won’t be easy, it never is heading down south to Palace as they always put up a mean fight. Ahead of the match, the Manchester Evening News have confirmed the 19-man squad that Mourinho will have at his disposal for the fixture.
Squad in full:
Goalkeepers: David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira.
Defenders: Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw.
Midfielders: Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard.
Forwards: Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku.
Perhaps the most glaring omission is Anthony Martial. The Frenchman wasn’t pictured amongst the group, although the MEN do say that sometimes players make their own way to away games; and that may well be the case here.
In terms of starting XI news, I’d imagine Mourinho will call upon a similar side to the one that beat Chelsea 2-1 last weekend. Perhaps Jesse Lingard could come into the team in Martial’s absence, and he’ll be feeling confident following scoring the winner against Antonio Conte’s men.
Then you have a decision to make surrounding Eric Bailly. The Ivory Coast international is by far and away the Red Devils’ best centre-half. Getting minutes under his belt tonight could be crucial, particularly if the gaffer wants him to play against both Liverpool and Sevilla over the next week or so.
