Jose Mourinho has confirmed a third Manchester United starter for their game against FC Basel this Tuesday, according to the Manchester Evening News. The report states that earlier on in the week, both Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof were confirmed to start, now Mourinho has stated David de Gea will play.
After the continental heroics from Sergio Romero last season, I guess it was tough to work out whether the manager was going to stick with the Argentine.
But, if we’re being honest, the Champions League is another step up in gear completely and we should always play the best team available to us.
De Gea is a truly world class player, and to be able to call upon one of the best shot-stoppers in the business is only a good thing for manager Mourinho. Just look at that stunning save he made against Stoke City over the weekend; not many would have been able to pull that off.
It’s vital that we get off with a win, particularly as we’re starting our Champions League campaign with a home game, and if we can put three points on the board early, it’ll be an excellent start.
