Manchester United Football Club have been in somewhat of a downward spiral recently, with Jose Mourinho being heavily questioned in the media
The self-proclaimed Special One did stop the rot last time out, with a stunning come-from-behind 3-2 victory at home to Newcastle United.
It has to be just the start, though, but this campaign has begun eerily similar to several others in Mourinho’s career. Make no mistake about it, third-season syndrome is a real thing for the man from Portugal.
A similar situation unfolded at Chelsea. The players revolted against Mourinho. However, Eden Hazard has explained that he would like to work with the current United manager again at some point.
“If I’m now asked one coach with whom I want to work again, then I say: ‘Mourinho’,” Hazard is quoted as saying by the BBC.
“Mourinho’s image of an extremely defensive coach isn’t completely right.”
Hazard then went onto add that Mourinho isn’t as defensive-minded as the majority like to suggest…
“The season in which we became champions, we made many goals and played good games.”
Finally, Hazard discussed that he has only had one bad year in professional football. It came under the self-proclaimed Special One…
“In 12 years I’ve only had one bad season – the last six months under Mourinho – and it was partly my fault,”
“After the title, we asked Mourinho for extra holidays. I came back totally out of shape.
“We didn’t win, we got into a sort of routine – training, training without having fun. It was better for all parties that the collaboration came to an end.”
It’s also nice to see Hazard taking responsibility for what happened. For Mourinho, it’s just a shame he didn’t realise it at the time.
The man from Belgium is an exceptional footballer. I love watching him play. Unfortunately for us, he’s in brilliant form right now and against our defence, well, let’s just say it could be a long afternoon.
What makes it even worse is the fact that Hazard has a practically flawless record against United. He seems to score almost every single time he plays against us – including breaking our hearts in the FA Cup final during our last meeting. I wonder if Ander Herrera will get the nod to start, in order to do a man-marking job on the best player in the country right now.
