Edinson Cavani is back in Manchester ahead of United vs Leeds tomorrow.
Yes, the season opener is already upon us. With EURO 2020, Copa America and the Olympics keeping us busy, it feels like we’ve not had a breather away from sport – not that I’m complaining!
Slowly but surely, our Red Devils have made their return to pre-season training. It started with academy graduates and first-team members who hadn’t been off on international duty.
Then came the more regular faces. Last, but not least, it was Edinson Cavani’s turn to arrive in Manchester following some extra time off in his homeland of Uruguay.
El Matador featured in the Copa America, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer granted extra leave for Cavani to see some family. It also gave our 34-year-old extra time to prepare his body for what looks like his final season in football.
However, the good news is, Cavani’s here:
Cavani’s off-season training would’ve been relentless. That’s just the way he operates. The work never stops for El Matador, which means he’ll be in tip-top shape quicker than most.
That said, I’d be extremely surprised if Cavani is fit enough to play any part against Leeds United tomorrow. Having made it back into Manchester just 36 hours prior to kick-off, I’d doubt he’s even afforded a spot amongst the substitutes bench.
What I will say is his house in Manchester looks absolutely beautiful. Look at that view!
Another point of interest is I don’t think Cavani understands how loved he is by the Old Trafford Faithful. Even if he isn’t involved tomorrow, the 34-year-old’s chant will undoubtedly be sung on numerous occasions. Man, I can’t wait to see Cavani score in front of a packed Stretford End. It’ll be the absolute dream.
Welcome back home, Edi!
