Edinson Cavani is another who is closing in on a first-team return.
It has definitely been a positive day for Manchester United in regards to team news. First, Harry Maguire is back and ready to play against Arsenal tonight. Then we learned that Raphael Varane was on his way back.
We’ve been given yet another lift over the last 24 hours, with a third key star back out on the grass; Edinson Cavani.
El Matador will not play against Arsenal tonight as this one comes a little too soon for El Matador, though to hear that he’s on the recovery trail is massive – particularly with Ralf Rangnick’s first game as manager looming.
Check out what Michael Carrick had to say in full here:
“Cavani won’t be fit for the first of those, against Arsenal at Old Trafford tomorrow (Thursday), but he has at least resumed individual training with the fitness coaches at Carrington.” The gaffer told ManUtd.com.
“Edi’s back on the grass,” Michael said. “He’s working outside with the strength and conditioning guys so he’s back on the grass.”
I cannot understate how important Cavani is for this team. When he’s not playing, we look like a far worse outfit – probably due to his high energy and tenacious style of play. Without him, it all just looks a little lethargic.
It’s a shame that for the second season in a row, Cavani’s campaign has been blighted by injury. I guess some of that is down to the fact he’s no longer a spring chicken and his body just doesn’t hold up as it used to.
Now, it’s about managing him correctly and utilising him probably once a week from the start. Cavani can still make a huge impression on any game off the subs bench, too.
I just love Edi. He’s one of those players who I didn’t really think much of – until he arrived here in Manchester. He’s been an absolute revelation for us, while earning himself a permanent place in the hearts of our fans. What a bloke!
