Man United could be without Edinson Cavani yet again, who has picked up another injury while away with his country.
Ralf Rangnick’s squad was already looking thin on the ground in the attacking area of the pitch. Anthony Martial left, while another player who will remain nameless is dealing with legal issues.
It left the German down to the bare bones in the final third of the pitch and it was going to be tough to keep everyone fit and healthy for the remainder of the campaign.
As we approach the business end of the season, United need all the help they can get as they look to pull off the impossible and somehow finish inside the Premier League’s top four.
However, their case hasn’t been helped by a ‘new problem’ picked up for a player on international duty. United were dealt the injury blow overnight, as attacker Edinson Cavani had to be subbed off after just 23 minutes while playing for Uruguay. The scoop comes from Fabrizio Romano.
While it’s true that the severity of the issue is not yet known, this does not bode well for United. The Red Devils play in just a few days time, while Cavani still has to find his way back from South America before even contemplating being fit for our 5:30 kick-off against Leicester City…
I know that hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it’s just sad watching Cavani’s United career dwindle down like this.
Injury after injury, staying in Uruguay for far longer than we’d like after an international fixture and generally not doing enough to get himself available to play for his club. Y’know, the ones that actually pay his wages?
It’s the disappointment more than anything for me. Cavani wore his heart on his sleeve and played with genuine pride and desire in 2020/21. The contrast to this year is mad and I just don’t get what’s happened behind the scenes to change his mindset and mentality.
Either way, we now have to focus on what can change going forward. I’d expect at least one or two attackers to leave this summer including Cavani, so at least we have some exciting additions to look forward to…
