Paul Scholes has pelted Edinson Cavani following a poor year from the Uruguay international.
I don’t know about you, but as a Manchester United fan I’m glad the 2021/22 campaign is over and done with. At the end of the day, the least we expect from our players is a little bit of fighting pride. We weren’t even given that over the last nine months.
Perhaps the player who epitomises that more than anyone is Edinson Cavani. The Uruguay star was superb during his debut campaign, though this time around, he displayed an absolutely disgusting attitude.
It’s well documented Cavani wasn’t best pleased with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, whom El Matador gave his #7 jersey up for. However, he should have remained professional. By the end of the term he didn’t even hide the fact he wasn’t all that bothered about getting minutes at United.
Now, the United star has been labelled a ‘disgrace’ by club legend Paul Scholes. That’s despite the fact the midfielder admitted that ‘funnily enough’, the club tend to do better when Cavani is available.

“Cavani I think was a disgrace this year, he hardly ever played,” Scholes is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.
“He pulled out of the Middlesbrough game because he had to travel back from wherever he was. Funnily enough, since that Middlesbrough game I think I heard last night United have won only five out of 18 games or something since then.”
I was absolutely buzzing when news broke that Cavani was going to stay for another year. But in hindsight, it was a pretty poor decision.
Cavani was doing everything possible to get himself fit to fly halfway across the planet to play for Uruguay. But not putting in that same effort for the club that actually pay his wages…
He’d also do everything possible to stay back in his homeland of Uruguay following an international break, which was more bad news for United due to his delayed return back to Manchester.
It’s a weird situation. And one that Cavani doesn’t come across well as a result. It’s a mercenary attitude. It gives off vibes as someone kicking up a fuss as he didn’t like a decision that was made at board level. He just needed to get on with it and play with pride – because that’s the least we fans deserve.
That said, I hope he finds happiness wherever he ends up this summer.
