Manchester United’s 21-man travelling party for the derby vs Manchester City has been spotted – with one notable absentee…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s big-game record has taken a real beating this season, despite some brilliant results against the so-called big-boys in the past. In the end, Manchester United can probably point to those struggles as the main reason why our title charge ended so early.
Sadly, this game is somewhat meaningless in regards to the Premier League table. That said, it’s always nice to win on derby day. Let’s hope our players go into this one with a more positive mindset than, say, the Chelsea game for instance.
Anwyay, the 21-man travelling squad has been spotted, with United seemingly dealt a blow, as key star Edinson Cavani wasn’t spotted. Thanks to the Manchester Evening News’ reporters for keeping their watchful eye on the team hotel.
Sure, the likes of David de Gea, Paul Pogba, Phil Jones and Donny van de Beek were expected to miss this one, but Cavani literally started in midweek and played the whole 90 minutes. Having our best striker as an absentee is a massive blow.
Confirmed 21-man squad in full here:
Dean Henderson, Lee Grant, Nathan Bishop, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Axel Tuanzebe, Luke Shaw, Alex Telles, Brandon Williams, Fred, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Shola Shoretire, Amad, Mason Greenwood, Daniel James, Anthony Martial.
Suddenly, our squad is looking a little thin on the ground. Particularly in those attacking areas. Although the fans, myself included, are looking for the club to sign a new centre-back this summer, I’m now looking at the possibility of adding some more quality in the final third.
It is a great opportunity for youngsters like Shola Shoretire and Amad Diallo to get a taste for a derby day, while I’m super excited to see how Dean Henderson gets on. Play well here and he could cement himself as United’s new number one in the long-term.
Hopefully, we’re all celebrating a positive result at about 6:30 GMT!
