Edinson Cavani will remain unavailable as Man United take on Atletico Madrid.
Manchester United resume their Champions League campaign tomorrow night, in a tournament that’ll really test the mentality of this squad.
While it’s true that only Manchester City have won more Premier League points than United since Ralf Rangnick took charge, the European scene is a different kettle of fish completely.
Winning our group rewarded us with a two-legged meeting against Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone. As we all know, this is going to be an incredibly-difficult challenge against a top tier side/
Ahead of the game, Rangnick met the media to give us the all-important lowdown on who’ll be fit and available. Sadly, one Man United star has been ruled out of tomorrow’s game; Edinson Cavani.
Check out what Ralf Rangnick had to say in full here:
“Edi will not make the trip. He didn’t train and hasn’t been training for a couple of weeks. He has problems with his groin and, as long as he doesn’t feel ready to fully sprint, it doesn’t make sense to train him.” Rangnick said to ManUtd.com.
El Matador has been nursing groin issues since returning from international duty earlier in the month. Although he has been pictured back in some sort of training, he’s still obviously dealing with the issue. If he can’t run, there’s absolutely no need in bringing him on the plane journey to Spain as there is no way he’ll be featuring.
It’s sad because Cavani definitely gives us a different dimension to Cristiano Ronaldo. His energy and lead-from-the-front mentality could have been handy in this sort of game. Unfortunately, we’ll now have to cope without.
I was all for renewing Cavani’s contract because he was outstanding for us last season. However, the injury problems seem to be mounting up and we’ve barely been given the opportunity to see him play a number of games in a row. Perhaps age is now starting to catch up with him…?
Is Edinson Cavani now becoming a liability? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
