Manchester United need help up top – particularly in the wake of Marcus Rashford’s long-term injury.

The Red Devils’ are likely to be exploring their options as you read this article, though whether or not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will deem it wise to dip his toes into the transfer water is another matter entirely.

One man linked with a potential Old Trafford switch this month is Edinson Cavani, who wants out of Paris Saint-Germain.

Anyway in an exclusive, the Manchester Evening News are claiming that United would have to pay a ‘significant fee’ to sign the 32-year-old this month – although Cavani is open to a January move.

MEN Sport understand that PSG wants £25m to let the Uruguayan leave, despite the player having just six months left on his current contract; meaning a loan exit is highly unlikely.

There’s no doubt that even in the short-term, Cavani would be an excellent addition to this squad. United need experience and having a proven goal-scorer as they look to put the pressure on Chelsea in the hunt for a top-four spot would be crucial.

However, I’m just not sure I see United willing to get away from the mould in the wake of an injury. Cavani would command huge wages, on at least a two-and-a-half-year deal – by which point he’d be 35 and the Reds would have yet another hefty wage to try and get away from…

I guess we’ll just have to see how this one plays out.
