Edinson Cavani ‘set to leave’ Man United at end of season: report

Edinson Cavani looks to be on his way out of Man United come this summer…

Last season, Edinson Cavani was an absolute breath of fresh air. I’ll be the first to admit that I was sceptical when this deal was made – though from minute one, I realised I was wrong.

El Matador immediately endeared himself to the Old Trafford faithful due to his insane work ethic, energy and commitment to the cause. His goals and leadership were equally as impressive.

Cavani was 50/50 to remain a Red Devil and in the end, United convinced the Uruguay star to stay. At the time, it felt like 100% the correct decision, but hindsight is a wonderful thing,

The injuries have started to build up, with Cavani being available for around 50% of our total games this campaign. I guess we should have expected some decline in that regard given his age.

Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, the United star is ‘set to leave’ this summer after his disappointing 2021/22 season.

It would be pretty sad to see Cavani go out with a whimper, which is why I’m still hopeful that the former PSG man will still contribute to United in a positive way before the end of the campaign.

I also don’t think Cavani has been given a proper shot at it under Rangnick as of yet. Again, that’s due to his own injury issues coupled with the international break coming at a particularly bad time. Allowing El Matador extra time off in Uruguay following his exploits for his country felt like a wise move in the then and there – though his dismal display against Burnley says otherwise.

One thing is for sure, whatever happens, Cavani will always be remembered fondly by United.
