Edinson Cavani has picked up an injury in training and he’s set to miss the next couple of games.
This weekend was a sublime one for Manchester United fans. The return of their prodigal son will be a moment us Red Devils will never forget.
The game itself was uncomfortable in large portions, though in the end Cristiano Ronaldo and company did manage to win 4-1 and secure all three points.
The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that a certain Edinson Cavani was omitted from the squad. Well, now we know why…
According to The Telegraph’s James Ducker, the star who scored 17-goals last season is out for about a week with an injury. Cavani picked up a knock in training and he’s set to miss the next two games (against Young Boys and West Ham).
Cavani’s start to the season was already delayed as he was given extra time off by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Now, though, we’re looking at someone who is falling behind the pace in terms of match fitness.
With games set to come thick and fast across all competitions, I think we’d all much prefer Cavani to be fit, healthy and ready to go.
However, it’ll probably take El Matador at least a couple of weeks to get up to speed and suddenly, we’ll be at the October international break and back to square one if Cavani decides to jet off and play for Uruguay. That’s because Covid-19 regulations from South America are understandably strict.
I don’t doubt that Cavani will make a massive impact for United this term, though I’m expecting his best moments to come in the second half of the season.
