Ralf Rangnick will be able to call upon Edinson Cavani for the remainder of the campaign.
It’s certainly fair to say that things haven’t gone quite according to plan in the 2021/22 campaign. Our beloved Red Devils have struggled on the pitch, leading to a media circus off it.
Ralf Rangnick will now know the size of the task he has on his hands. Make no mistake about it, this squad is full of underconfident, struggling players right now. That’s no to deny their talent, just in a mentally-tough place at the minute.
I’d argue that Edinson Cavani is one of the biggest presences within that dressing room. El Matador’s influence, both on and off the field, is huge. He’s the catalyst to everything good about our play while his body language is always exemplary.
Rumours linking Cavani with a move away from Old Trafford in the mid-season have been rife. Some fans even thought he’d waved goodbye to the Theatre of Dreams a fortnight ago.
Well, United have been boosted as the key star has committed his future to the club. Over the last 24 hours, Rangnick has confirmed that Cavani told him ‘he will definitely stay’ for the remainder of the campaign.
“We spoke for almost half an hour. He told me he will definitely stay. I can rely on him to give his very best and be a role model for young players.” Rangnick told the media, including the BBC’s Simon Stone.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. When Cavani made the move to Old Trafford last summer I was sceptical. It’s fair to say it didn’t take El Matador long to change my mind.
The intent, tenacity and aggression with which he plays instantly endeared him to the United fans all over the globe. Factor in his lethal finishing in front of goal and his ability to unite a team – you’ve got the ideal squad player.
It’s just a shame that we signed Cavani so late in the day. His injury issues are starting to mount up while El Matador is no spring chicken anymore. He cannot start every single game and make a positive impact. Sadly, his minutes have to be managed and it’s up to Rangnick to use the Uruguayan wisely.
