Man United will have to take on Manchester City without the services of Edinson Cavani…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done well in the Manchester derby since being appointed Manchester United manager. That big-game success is probably why he’s still in a job now.
Our Baby Faced Assassin simply has to get a positive result at Old Trafford here, if not, the crows will no doubt continue to circle.
Victor Lindelof remains a doubt for this game, while Raphael Varane is already ruled out.
Now, United have been dealt another late derby injury blow, with key star Edinson Cavani set to be unavailable for this one.
That’s according to journalist Rodrigo Romano, who tweeted the news yesterday evening. Apparently, El Matador has been suffering from ‘severe pain’ in one of his tendons for the last couple of days.
So-much-so that he will not travel for Uruguay international duty during the upcoming international break.
No doubt United will be monitoring the issue over the next fortnight, in the hope that the veteran forward will be able to take his place in the starting line-up against Watford on November 20th.
Obviously, Solskjaer will be more worried about the short-term. The Manchester derby is a massive fixture and I’ve no doubt El Matador was slated to start this one.
This begs the question, does Marcus Rashford start up top with Cristiano Ronaldo? Or do we switch back to the more traditional 4-3-3 formation and opt for the lone striker?
It’s an intriguing decision, but the gaffer hasn’t had too long to think about it as this news is very, very fresh. Either way, we’ll still be putting a top-quality side out onto the turf tomorrow – so we have to go into the match at Old Trafford feeling positive.
