Edinson Cavani has been putting in the work in pre-season, ahead of Man United vs Leeds United this weekend.
We’re now just a few days away from the big Premier League opener against fierce rivals Leeds United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pre-season probably hasn’t gone exactly as planned, due to COVID-19 meaning one friendly was cancelled, while some players took far too long to join in on pre-season – through no fault of their own.
Well, one player who is yet to return is Edinson Cavani. El Matador originally wasn’t due to fly back to Manchester until tomorrow. Apparently, his return has been delayed even further, so sadly, there’s zero chance our Uruguay international will be involved against Leeds on Saturday lunchtime.
However, that hasn’t stopped the 34-year-old from putting in the graft in an individual training session over in Uruguay.
Check out the video of Edinson Cavani here (via his Instagram):
When you see videos like this, it completely reinforces the belief that Cavani is amongst the hardest workers in football. When you watch him in the in-game situation, that’s when it really hits home.
Cavani’s work rate and willingness to do his bit for the team is second to none and that’s what surprised me most about his debut season at Old Trafford.
El Matador plays with great intensity, a real desire and willingness to win. You have to admire that about him and that’s why United supporters made him their new cult hero from practically his first appearance in Reds colours.
Although we’ll likely be kept waiting a couple of weeks before we see Cavani in action, this is undoubtedly the best course of action. I’d rather have him fit and available for the title run-in as opposed to him picking up an injury because he’s being overworked in the season’s early going.
