Elite Premier League defender trying to force through move to Manchester United: report

Tottenham centre-back Toby Alderweireld is trying to run down his Tottenham Hotspur contract, in order to push through a deal to Manchester United.

Apparently, the 29-year-old is desperate to seal an Old Trafford transfer, according to The Mirror, per talkSPORT. The Belgium international will reject any other interested parties, while also saying no to a bumper £130,000-a-week offer from his current club.

However, with Spurs continuing to be notoriously tough negotiators, they’ll demand an extreme £75million to let the centre-back leave White Hart Lane this summer.

Experience is desperately required across the back four. Hopefully, those moves for both Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina were just a smoke-screen. Alderweireld is the ideal candidate, heck, he always has been.

Tough in the tackle, great in the air, a decent passing range and a vocal leader, he’s everything Jose Mourinho wants in a defender. Alongside Eric Bailly, he’d be brilliant.

Now, the onus is on Edward Woodward to get the deal completed before the Thursday deadline. It’s not going to be easy, but I fancy United to push the transfer through, with Alderweireld becoming our most important signing of the summer.
