Eric Bailly concerned about first-team minutes ahead of 2021/22 season: report

Eric Bailly is worried about his Man United minutes going into the 2021/22 campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad is now starting to take shape nicely. Manchester United have slowly moulded this team into one that has massive potential.

The imminent arrival of Raphael Varane is another piece of the puzzle. However, alongside that comes disappointment within the first-team squad as someone’s minutes will diminish to make way for the new signing.

Well, according to ESPN, it’s Eric Bailly who is worried. Apparently, the Man United star is concerned about having to deal with ‘severely limited’ first-team opportunities ahead of the new season.

So much so that the Ivorian is going to ‘seek clarification’, over his future, following the news that Varane is all-but-certain to make the move to Manchester.

ESPN state that United have agreed to pay the base fee of £34m to sign Varane, which is an absolute bargain by the way. That leaves fewer minutes in the bank for the six central defenders who are already at the club.

It looks like Axel Tuanzebe could be one casualty, though seemingly, Bailly is worried about that, too.

What I will say is that Bailly hasn’t helped himself. He’s always injured, which, granted isn’t all his own doing. However, his performances have been incredibly hit and miss. That’s something within his control and I’d argue he doesn’t deserve to be starting week-in-week-out at this point in time.

United’s defence was their weak link in the 2020/21 campaign. It was obvious that Solskjaer was going to look at strengthening in that area of the park. Let’s not forget it was Bailly who recently agreed to sign a new deal at the club. Nobody forced him to do that.

Just go out there, earn your minutes on the training field and those chances will come. It really is as simple as that.
