The upcoming pre-season for Manchester United could well determine the fate of several Red devils players. For some, it’s a final opportunity to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Eric Bailly could well be amongst those players, particularly after his turgid injury record. However, the Red Devils have been given an ‘injury boost’ in that regard, or so it is being claimed by the Manchester Evening News.
Apparently, the 25-year-old centre-half could well be fit for United’s pre-season tour of Australasia, as he ‘steps up’ his recovery from a knee injury – which he suffered in a game against Chelsea back in April.
Unfortunately for Bailly, the injury ended his season prematurely, while also ruling the Ivorian out of the African Cup of Nations. However, Bailly has started working at the Global Performance centre in Barcelona, ahead of United’s return to training on July 1st. One week after that, they’re set to jet out on tour.
Bailly’s situation is a tough one. I’m firm in my belief that he’s the best natural defender at the club. He shown us that to great effect during his debut season under Jose Mourinho.
Since then, though, injuries have seriously hampered him and you get the feeling that he’ll get one final year to prove his worth. On paper, a Bailly and Victor Lindelof combination sounds absolutely perfect – I just hope we get to see it out on the pitch with regularity over the next twelve months.
